This week I thought I'd talk a little about the garden in July. It's a time of growing harvests and reaping the rewards of March and April planting, and it's also a time of trying to keep everything alive in the heat.😳 During July and August I have our watering system set to run for 3 hours every 3 days (up from every 4 to 5 days in the spring and fall). I also use straw mulch to help keep the ground more moist and will add a shade cloth to beds that need it (especially for lettuce). I did start some fall seeds of cabbage, beets, broccoli, chard, and lettuce and they are mostly sprouted (which is saying a lot in this heat!).
