Hi Reader,

Tomorrow is Father's Day, which is actually going to be a bit quiet around here since our extended family is doing a big BBQ for all the dads next weekend and our kids will be coming to that. So I wanted to make some of Brian's favorite foods for this weekend and asked him to tell me what recipes of mine he likes.

Surprisingly he didn't hem and haw - he rapidly listed off quite a few with no hesitation! I thought I'd share them with you in case you'd like to make them tomorrow - or any other time. πŸ˜€

Favorite Recipes for Dads

Brian uses this bread for toast, for "upscale" burger buns, for dipping in hummus - basically all the things. He doesn't care if it's the yeast version or this sourdough version.

The crispy, tangy chicken that I've made for countless birthday dinners.

The "tasty rice" my grandma was known for is a favorite of so many (and conveniently goes so well with the mustard chicken!).

Brian would probably be happy if I made this weekly in the summer - and I'm supposed to say to serve it with Louisiana Hot Sauce. πŸ˜€

Finally, Brian's favorite since he first met me: my chewy chocolate chip cookies.

A New Thing

I hope you've gotten a chance to read the email I sent out yesterday announcing the new project I'm starting: a newsletter consisting of all the things I used to write about all the time before Google's algorithm changed - DIY projects, crafty projects, travel, frugal ideas, and more!

It's called Notes From The Farmhouse and I will be sending out 2 emails a week from a dedicated website that will house all the archives and more as I add them. Each email will cover different creative aspects of living a simple homemade life that I hope will be a joyful addition to your inbox.πŸ˜€

My goals is that this email and separate website will have no ads, so to receive the newsletter I am charging for the subscription which works out to just $5 or less per month. I understand if not everyone can swing that now, so no worries if it's not for you at this time.

I will continue to post to An Oregon Cottage, of course, and to send out this weekly newsletter and any other emails around recipes or specific garden tutorials.

But all the things like garden tours, DIY updates, house tours, crafty things I'm working on, what's happening around the farmhouse, and things I've found that I'm loving will be highlighted in Notes from the Farmhouse!

I'm excited to have an algorithm-free and ad-free place to write about ALL the things that make up a simple homemade life again and I'd love it if you could join me there.πŸ’œ

WHAT'S NEW

Quick Pickle Roll Up- Protein Rich App or Snack

My favorite way to use up pickled preserves - green beans, asparagus, dill pickles - and a fan favorite wherever I bring them.

What I'm Making

I've been recipe testing a couple new easy things to make I hope to share with you soon, but the main thing I'm making right now is salads! The lettuce is coming in strong and I don't want it to go to waste.

β†’I found that this lemon vinaigrette is so light and lovely on the tender butterhead lettuce that will only be around for another week or so before it all bolts. TIP: Use that immersion blender, even if it seems a pain to get it out - the dressing stays blended so much longer than just shaking!

β†’I'm making some variation of this chopped salad all the time using whatever I have in the fridge or garden, mixing up the beans with what is on the shelf (or freezer) - and serving in on a bed of lettuce, of course.πŸ˜€

Thanks for reading along - here's to a great week and nice time celebrating any dad or dad-figures in your life!

Know someone who'd appreciate this? Forward it along!

I like the summer weather, but I'm trying hard to enjoy the clouds and rain for the garden, lol. We've planted some shrubs that would like to not be scorched for a bit while they settle in and...

For me it was filled with my annual checkup, watering plants (the gray clouds I hoped would produce some rain only gave us a bit of mist 😞), and a date night with Brian to a brew pub and a fun movie (see more on that in the last section). Don't get me wrong - I did enjoy the couple days we had of 80 degree days...
