Hi Reader,

After bemoaning the change to cold mornings and highs in the low 60s last week, we were blessed with two days in the 80s this last week!! I loved getting some garden jobs crossed off the list in super pleasant weather and a few more meals out on the porch.😎 I got the garlic planted, as well as some new lavender and boxwoods for the porch garden beds, mulched a few bare veggie beds, and started on refreshing the wood chip paths.

I really do think we're solidly into 50-60 degree highs now, though (hopefully with some rain to help with the watering), which is actually good for one of my favorite meal combos when the weather turns cooler:

SOUP + BREAD

I plan for this meal at least once a week in the fall and winter, often making a big batch in my 6-quart soup pot, even though it's mainly just me and Brian eating (which cracks him up). Why? Because I LOVE the leftovers, both the flavor (which often gets better) and because it makes lunches so easy - just heat and eat.💜

Which means our stretch of mild, summer-like weather is over and my sundresses really have to be put away this time (our false end-of-summer in August and September had me thinking...

But October - that's the real transition month for us. The beginning of the month is typically still nice...

I harvested a few of my small white pumpkins and combined them with a few sprigs of purple flowering oregano for a simple centerpiece: I have a few more plus two large cinderella type that grew this year to use on the porch and on bookshelves - I'm so glad they produced this year (last year I got none...
