How are you doing? We're still basking in the sunshine around here, though the weather people tell me that's going to change and we'll have rain most of next week. Surprisingly, I'm great with that as I've got seeds and transplants that need some consistent moisture. π This weekend I have a big project I hope to get done - tearing up the broken concrete patio in the fenced vegetable garden!! I know - why would I go to all the trouble to add it and now remove it? Simple: 5 years ago we didn't have another place to sit outside and now we do (and we did get a lot of use out of the patio- the new spot is simply closer to the house). Also, I didn't quite understand then that the deer would eat everything around here and that the deterrents that work for others do not work here. So now that fenced area has become prize planting ground! And I've really missed growing corn, so the plan is to plant corn as well as squash and maybe potatoes on the edges. This will be a raised bed with simple dirt edges like our previous corn beds (they started with 4x4 edging to hold in the dirt, but when they rotted, we just left the beds with the rounded dirt edges). Hopefully I'll have some pictures of the space to share with you! β Healthy Desserts for Mother's Day and MoreHere are some of the healthier dessert options that will work for Mother's Day and any summer celebrations or picnics you're looking forward to! Like to see more? Head to the Desserts recipe index! β A Kitchen FavoriteToday I'd like to highlight the large, straight sided Weck canning jar - but not for canning! I only found out last year that apparently these jars are perfect for keeping and feeding your sourdough starter (yes, after many years of using sourdough π). They aren't that expensive (if you only need 1 or 2 - not the number I use for canning) so I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about. Well, they're right - it is easier to mix, pour, and use the starter from this completely straight-sided jar vs. the wide-mouth mason jar! It's now the only jar I use to grow and keep my starter - totally worth it! βThis is the place that has them for the best price that I've found. β From The BlogA Few More ThingsOne of my favorite historical "cozy mystery" series has a new installment set in Paris during the 1900 World's Fair that I'm listening to now (I love the narrator - she really brings this heroine to life!). If you haven't listened to this series yet, you are in for a treat! I've been wanting neutral short sleeve, shorter cardigans/shrugs for sleeveless dresses and tops this summer, so of course I headed to Thredup first to see what they had. You can filter the search by material as well as style so I chose only natural materials (love this option) and found both a black and cream cardigan that will work with all of my clothing. With the current discount code of 20-45% off (and my birthday month $5 reward!) they were about $15 each. I especially love this option for harder to find things like this - I would've had to search at a number of places for short sleeve cotton cardigans! Have you tried Thredup yet? If not, use this link to get 45% off AND free shipping on your first order! β‘οΈ ALSO: I've been wondering if there is something specific you'd like to hear from me about? What would you like to know? Are you struggling in certain things I can help with? I'm all ears (well, eyes, since it's email, haha) - hit reply and let me know! β Here's to a great week - thanks for hanging out with me! We stayed a couple nights in this cute old-house-turned-inn (with a coffee store on the first floor - yay), and also got to check out antique stores in the adorable town of Silverton. I haven't been to the state park since my...

Right now I'm still enjoying watering in the mornings (ha! You know that won't last...) and we're almost done with all the "have-to" yard projects (I have one more pestering area to weed and protect from the deer). So, yeah - early summer.π Since summer is...

Some years we've gone on a hike to a place Brian has chosen (though it hasn't always gone well - there was one year he ran over a squirrel in a parking area which put a pall over the day...), and some years we just hang out. But the last few years our extended...
