Hi Reader,

I know people start talking about fall cooking and food in September, but it still really feels like summer to me - the garden is still producing a lot and the weather is usually warm enough for grilling and eating outside consistently.

But October - that's the real transition month for us. The beginning of the month is typically still nice (we're in a stretch of 70+ degrees and sunny as I write this and I'm sitting out on the porch!), but the mornings and evenings are cool which makes baking appealing again. And then by mid-month it's usually time for all the bakes, roasting, and soups like a true fall menu

So the dinner menus for October bridge this gap between summer (I'm still harvesting summer pole beans, some zucchini, and a few small tomatoes!) and fall: you'll find some salads and grilled meals as well as soups and some comforting baked and roasted meals.

Here's a week's menu I put together from the full month (you can do this or use as-is from the downloadable pdf option) - my goal is to help you plan simple, real food menus that work for you.💚

Which means our stretch of mild, summer-like weather is over and my sundresses really have to be put away this time (our false end-of-summer in August and September had me thinking...

I harvested a few of my small white pumpkins and combined them with a few sprigs of purple flowering oregano for a simple centerpiece: I have a few more plus two large cinderella type that grew this year to use on the porch and on bookshelves - I'm so glad they produced this year (last year I got none...

We were celebrating our anniversary AND we had last stayed there on our honeymoon!! It was a super fun place to visit, which was helped by the beautiful weather - sunny and high 60s the whole time we were there...
